The newest, and also likely the weirdest, track on the album... coincidence? Probably not (so look out, my music isn't going to get any more conventional going forward)!
The first part of the song is a very strange guitar instrumental I recorded about 2 1/2 years ago... all guitar, no keyboard, I promise! It was also recorded completely live, no overdubs or edits. One day I'll release the full thing, which is about a minute longer than the minute and a half that's here. Luckily for me it was in the same key as the next part, which was originally a stand-alone piece.
The second part of the song has lyrics I wrote when I was 14... they sat around for years until I found them one day, not too long ago, and was able to figure out the rhythm they suggested! In that respect, it makes sense I wrote it back in the late 90's. ;-)
The last part of the song, I made up pretty much as I went along - the vocal there was all first take!
After I finished the song, I realized that there were homages to a favourite band of mine throughout it... the hint is in the title (which also describes the song perfectly - a triptych is a three-piece work of art, fitting given the odd structure of the tune).
lyrics
Always running, never stopping
If you care you will show it to me
Always running, never stopping
If you care, then you won't fail me
You've loved for so long, now it's time to
Fall into eternal slumber
When you'll wake up to the sound of
The world drawing down the final curtain
Always running, never stopping
I'll protect you but I can't stay forever
You'll outlast me, the Earth, the cosmos
And the universe, and all existence
Don't fail me now, you can't let me down
Don't try to comprehend unexistence
Don't think about how you'll be alone
Waking up to Armaggeddon
If you listen really closely
Can you hear me in your dreams?
All of my nightmares revolve in phases
From a whisper... to a scream

Written and produced by Trevor Layton.
Living near Vancouver BC, Trevor's been playing, singing, and honing his craft for a long while now... always exploring new
sounds, styles and atmospheres. Classic rock guitar-led music is definitely his 'homebase', but branching out from that as much as possible is the M.O. He's produced 3 solo albums so far and a 4th release is on the way - check out new tracks as they come up!...more
Easily my album of 2017 (and at this rate, 2018 too). It may be nine minutes long, but try getting "Rolling Stone" out of your head after you listen to it... and the rest of the album is just as good! Trevor Layton
An epic, heavy-as-hell opus that sounds as influenced by Pink Floyd and Richard Wagner as it does by Black Sabbath and Nirvana, Amplifier is a pretty one-of-a-kind band! Still my favourite of theirs. Trevor Layton
